Meal Prep For Beginners



Most of us are pretty busy in our day-to-day lives. When you've got a million things on the go, meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking can sometimes fall by the wayside, especially if you're unsure of how to prepare your meals in advance or make healthy, tasty recipes that'll cater to your cravings all week.

I'm here to tell you that not only does meal prep save time and money during the week, it also doesn't have to be hard or time consuming. For #SundayPrep, you'll need to start by making a game plan. Same goes for Meal Prepping. Freezing these types of meals in individual pre-portioned containers is a great idea when you need to make your meal prep last.

Some meal prep recipes will freeze better than others. To ensure you get the best out of this experience, set aside one day of the week that you can devote to preparing all of your meals for the following days. I generally reserve an hour or two (depending on what I'm making) on a Sunday evening to prep our lunches.

So I started focusing on the meal itself and sharing how people could put these recipes into their meal plans and see if it traveled well. Also frost free freezers will suck out the moisture of the food which can been a issue better rule of thumb is 4 weeks 6 at max.

I learned that I needed to pick one day and set aside two hours to cook enough food for three days - think of it as the 1-2-3 of meal prep. Now that you have your total number, create a freezer-friendly meal plan and choose your recipes. It's not easy to choose healthy foods when you lead a busy life — and let's face it, we all lead busy lives.

At first, make a healthy recipe that you know you love - you'll be more inclined to eat it without getting tired of it (and you won't be stuck with four days' worth of meals that you don't enjoy). Pick a day and time to do your meal prep and put it into your calendar.

As a registered dietitian, I have so many clients who, when they don't meal prep, find themselves ordering in during the week because they're too tired to cook, or stopping on their way home from the office and picking up takeout because they're too hungry or their fridge is too empty to make a healthy meal for dinner.

If you're planning to prepare meals for the week on a regular basis, it is worth investing in some quality storage containers. Choose a day of the week (or a specific time of day) where you have ample time to prepare food for the week ahead.
